Where Studios, Teachers and Dancers Meet

4.png

Overview

DanceBook centralizes the dance community by connecting studios, teachers, and dancers in one place. The app simplifies booking, scheduling, and communication, making operations smoother for teachers, classes more accessible for dancers, and studio time more profitable for owners.

The Problem

The dance industry operates across disconnected channels. Class discovery, studio rentals, scheduling, and communication are handled manually through social media, apps, and personal connections. Without a centralized platform, the ecosystem remains fragmented, making it difficult for all sides to coordinate, plan, and access opportunities efficiently.

Teachers lack tools to manage classes, bookings, and communication in one place

Studio owners miss opportunities to rent space during downtime and increase revenue

Dancers struggle to find and sign up for classes that match their schedule and style

Research

To understand teachers, studio owners and dancers currently operate, I analyzed how each group discovers classes, coordinates schedules, rents space, and manages communication.

Interviews

Teachers

"I post my classes on Instagram and that’s how students reach out to me"

  • Rely on social media for class promotion and visibility

  • Manage bookings, payments, and communication across multiple tools

  • Rent studio space manually, creating operational friction and limiting scalability

Studios Owners

"I need to rent the studio during empty hours for occasional classes"

  • Struggle to fill unused time slots

  • Limited visibility among instructors

  • Rentals are coordinated manually, making it hard to maximize utilization and revenue

Dancers

"I check teachers’ Instagram for classes, and the BeStreet app"

  • Class discovery is fragmented across platforms

  • Registration and communication are handled manually

  • Difficult to find classes that match schedule, style, and location

The interviews helped me map the ecosystem and surface pain points across different user groups.

For the next phase, I chose to focus on teachers and conducted a survey with 24 participants to further explore their needs.

Insights

Promotion, registration, and studio booking are handled manually across different channels

Studio discovery depends on personal contacts rather than real availability

As teachers grow their audience, coordination becomes harder and less scalable

Teachers are currently acting as their own operations platform across disconnected tools.
